Initial Notes on Fosse

Here are my notes about Fosse soon after I started fostering her:

As cute as she is, I can totally see why she wasn’t adopted at the shelter. She doesn’t seek out attention although you can tell she would like some. She seems completely overwhelmed with being treated kindly. She is generally a nervous and anxious girl.

As you know, she’s great in the car, is very quiet and at most lets out a squeak here and there – she hasn’t barked yet. She LOVES walks – it’s really the only time I see the playful side of her. She responds very well to other dogs and has so far relied heavily on Sloop for guidance in the house. I think she would like to have a canine companion. She does well around the house and doesn’t get into any trouble. She’s also very polite – she walks behind me when we are entering the house or going up the stairs.

On the flip side, she doesn’t really interact much with humans. She is terrified of every noise including the opening of a cupboard or the moving of a dish. She’ll come up and sniff me but if I reach out to pet her, she runs although occasionally, she’ll give in to my need to pet her or kiss her! She is very nervous when eating and backs off with the slightest movement or noise. I took her to the dog park yesterday and she played well although I forgot that catching her would be a bit of a challenge! She would not approach humans at the park and actually ran away from them if they tried to pet her. All of these things will improve in time, I’m sure.

Other than that, she’s doing pretty well (and is eating well once she relaxes) but has a really long way to go before trusting humans again…
